この宗教サミットは、2014年から、Ｇ20の開催国で毎年行ってるものです。Ｇ20大阪サミットのある今年は、日本がホスト国になります。そこで、世界開発協力機構（WSD）が、日本側ホストとして、Ｇ20インターフェース・フォーラム・アソシエーションや関連団体と協力し、共同開催するものです。
この20〜30年の間に、世界の枠組みはどんどん変わっています。今年のＧ20宗教サミットでは、今年のＧ20大阪サミットの議題に合わせ、PPP（ピース、ピープル、プラネット）をテーマに、政治、経済、宗教の垣根を越え、世界の諸問題を創造的に議論します。そして、それを、20カ国の政府に提言するのです。
そこで、今回のサミットでは、元首相を３人、特別ゲストとしてお迎えします。キャメロン前英国首相と、ジョン・キー元ニュージーランド首相、エンダ・ケニー元アイルランド首相です。
また、ケープタウン大学総長のグラサ・マシェル氏や、ノーベル平和賞受賞のデニース・コグラン氏、元英国国教会カンタベリー大主教のロード・キャリー、そして、元ルーテル世界連盟事務総長で、IFAPA代表のイシュマエル・ノコ氏らを、特別ゲストに迎えます。
６月７日は非公開です。海外から200人、国内から100人が参加し、約300人が議論します。６月８日、９日は公開サミットを行い、2千人収容の大ホールで締めくくります。
一般公開の８日、９日は、まじめな議論も行いますが、的を絞った内容にとどまらず、一般にもわかりやすいサミットにしたいです。こうして、国や世界の重要課題を、広く一般に知って頂くことが、民間の公益団体が主催する意義だと考えます。
世界開発協力機構（WSD）では、これまで様々なサミットを開催してきました。「世界オピニオンリーダーズサミット」では、第１回にトニー・ブレア元英国首相。第２回に、ビル・クリントン元米国大統領とコリン・パウエル元米国務長官。第３回は、トニー・ブレア元英国首相とジョン・ハワード元豪州首相、フィデル・ラモス元フィリピン大統領。第４回は、バラク・オバマ元米国大統領を招聘し、熱い議論を交わしました。
また「人権サミット」や、「IPUの若い議員と語り合うグローバル・オピニオン・サミット」、「スポーツ平和サミット」なども行いました。
今回のG20世界宗教サミットでは、特に、次の３つのテーマに基づいて行います。
ひとつは、ダボス会議は経済会議ですが、経済人と政治家だけでなく、９・11のあと、宗教界も呼ばれるようになりました。宗教の軋轢が理解できないと、テロなど、世界の諸問題は理解できないし、解決できないからです。
ところで、国連のミレニアム開発目標（MDGs）は，2015年までにある程度達成できました。次の国連目標である「SDGs」は、政治、経済、宗教の枠を超え、皆が協力しないと達成できません。そこで、SDGs達成に向けても、創造的議論を行います。
２つ目は、世界の85%の人々が、宗教に強い関わりを持っています。宗教団体に属さなくても、何らかの信仰があるのです。
この要素を考慮せず、政策を立てても成功しないでしょう。この点についても、議論します。
３つ目は、国益と国益がぶつかる問題は、ある程度解決がついてきました。しかし、解決が行き詰まる問題の、75%は宗教と民族の絡んだ紛争なのです。
そこで、紛争の解決と予防のために、人的交流の機会を作り、お互いの意見や立場を理解した上で、政治的決着をつけるのが最善です。それに向かって、こうしたサミットを行う次第です。
最後に、世界と日本から集まって下さった、優れたオピニオンリーダーの皆様には、大変感謝してます。また、８日と９日に参加される、延べ４千人の皆様には、衷心より感謝申し上げます。

I extend my warmest thanks to you all, for being here as participants in the G20 Interfaith Forum Japan 2019.
The Forum has been held annually in a G20 host country since 2014. Japan will assume the role of host country for this year’s G20 Summit in Osaka. Worldwide Support for Development (WSD) has therefore co-organized this Forum as the host in Japan, along with the G20 Interfaith Forum Association and other related entities.
During the past 20-30 years, world paradigms have been under drastic change. In accordance with the G20 Osaka Summit agendas, this year’s G20 Interfaith Forum has PPP (Peace, People and Planet) as its general theme, under which delegates will exchange creative ideas and insights beyond political, economic and religious barriers, in order to solve the global issues we now face. The conclusions will be presented to the governments of G20 nations as recommendations.
In this Summit, three former Prime Ministers have been invited as special guests – Rt.Hon. David Cameron, former Prime Minister of the U.K., Sir John Key, former Prime Minister of New Zealand, and H.E. Enda Kenny, former Prime Minister of Ireland.
Other special guests also include H.E. Graça Machel, Chancellor of the University of Cape Town (widow of the late Nelson Mandela), Sister Denise Coghlan, Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Lord Carey of Clifton, former Archbishop of Canterbury, and Dr. Ishmael Noko, former Secretary-General of the World Lutheran Federation and President of Interfaith Action for Peace in Africa.
The Forum on June 7th is closed to the public. Approximately 200 speakers in total from overseas are partaking in discussions. On June 8th and 9th, the Forum will be open to the public, closing with a final plenary session in the grand hall with 2,000 people.
When open to the public on June 8th and 9th, specific topics of gravity will be discussed, however, I hope the Forum on these days will still remain easy-to-understand and interesting for a general audience. I believe, private not-for-profit organizations that arrange such Forums should be motivated by the opportunity to introduce issues of such national and global importance to lay audiences.
Worldwide Support for Development （WSD）has an extensive history of organizing summits of similar standing. Special invited guests include the Rt. Hon. Tony Blair, former Prime Minister of the U.K. to the first “Global Opinion Leaders Summit”. The second summit hosted Bill Clinton, former President of the United States, and former US Secretary of State, Colin Powell. The Rt. Hon. Tony Blair, Rt. Hon. John Howard, former Prime Minister of Australia and Fidel Ramos, former President of the Philippines, joined for the third summit, while Barack Obama, former president of the United States spoke at the fourth “Global Opinion Leaders Summit”. Each provided enlightened insight and engaged in heated discussion.
WSD has also held the “Global Human Rights Summit”, “The Young Parliaments’ Global Opinion Summit,” and the “World Sports Values Summit for Peace”.
The G20 Interfaith Forum Japan 2019 will follow three major topics.
First, “Davos” operated purely as an economic forum, but after 9/11 not only business figures and politicians but also religious leaders began to be invited. This was because of the realization that world issues such as terrorism could not be fully understood and solved, without knowledge and comprehension of religious conflicts. While the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) had to a certain extent been achieved by 2015, the succeeding Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) will not be attained unless every actor in the political, economic and religious spheres work together and surmount the barriers that divide them. Therefore, creative discussions will be held for the purpose of achieving SDGs.
Secondly, approximately 85% of world population hold a strong affiliation with a certain religion or faith, even if these do not pertain to a specific religious organization. Policy-making decisions that are made without consideration of this factor will therefore not lead to success. This topic will also be discussed.
Thirdly, while we seem to find certain solutions to conflicts of national interest, approximately 75% of deadlocked issues are spawned from conflicts between religious or ethnic groups. The best way for solving and preventing these conflicts would therefore be to create opportunities for personal exchange to gain mutual understanding of others’ opinions and standpoints – in the hope to reach eventual political settlement.
This Forum will be one of such occasion.
Finally I would like to express my sincere gratitude to each of the excellent opinion leaders here, who hail from every corner of the world and Japan. I also offer my heartfelt appreciation to all the 4,000 participants who are attending this Forum on June 8th and 9th.
